Update Outline
In most cases updating DuVoice isn't recommended or required.
However, there are a few reasons as to why we would want to have the DuVoice patch updated.
- There is a vulnerability with an included service that is fixed within a newer patch.
- If there is a bug affecting the currently installed DuVoice patch.
- Updating to a newer DuVoice patch may fix said bug.
- If it doesn't fix said bug, then updating the software will give our developers the current code base they need, so DuVoice support can share the issue with them, thus the issue can be addressed.
- In this case, there will need to be another update done on the DuVoice server, once the newer patch with the bug fix is released.
Recommendations
- If update is happening on a VM, taking a snapshot before the process has started is recommended.
- Just in case the changes to the DuVoice server needs to be reverted.
Requirements
Scheduling
- If this cannot be done unprompted, we will want to schedule a meeting to get this done.
- Prepare for the meeting to be roughly an hour, and schedule the downtime on-site for DuVoice services to match.
- Even though, it is likely the actual downtime may be less.
- For larger DuVoice installs (in the thousands of users) this process could take longer.
Remote Access
- DuVoice support requires remote access to the DuVoice server to perform the update itself.
- DuVoice support requires a method for transferring files to (and from) the DuVoice server during the update.
Antivirus Software
- Any antivirus software will need to be disabled BEFORE we start our update.
- Often antivirus software falsely quarantines crucial components during the DuVoice installation, causing data corruption.
