Windows
Settings to provide the best results and operation of the DuVoice system.
Version
DV2000 supports Windows versions:
- Windows 11
- Windows 10
- Windows Server 2019 or above.
General
- Windows must always have the latest updates available from Microsoft installed.
- The Windows Power Plan must be configured to never put Windows in a Sleep state and to never turn off the Hard Disk.
- For ease of use Windows User Account Control should be lowered to it's minimum setting.
- Installation requires a local administrator account or ability to login to the system with Administrator privileges.
- Multiple RDP sessions are not supported.
- No non-DuVoice supplied web servers.
- Use of the Windows firewall is recommended. It should be configured to pass traffic between the PBX, PMS, and other systems the DV2000 connects with. For more detail see our guide.
- DuVoice software is installed in C: (Multiple Directories will be created by the installer), ensure the required disk space is available for these directories to be created by the installation software.
- Uninstall all games and other offers like Instagram and Spotify and Office.
- Disable Widgets
- Disable Chat
- Uninstall Teams.
- Disable Copilot.
Folders
Configured under Folders Options in Control Panel.
- Uncheck Hide empty drives in the Computer folder
- Uncheck Hide extensions for known types
- Choose Show hidden files, folders, and drives
Users
The DuVoice service runs as a system account which does not require a user account. However the user account that administers the system must be an Administrator because they need this access level.
Don't create user accounts on the local system for any other users or reasons. This is after all your voicemail and hospitality server.
DuVoice has no backdoors or way of accessing the system if you forget your password.
- Lower UAC to it's lowest setting. Not doing this will require the user to manually run all DV2000 applications as Administrator as well as accept the UAC prompt. Not lowering UAC or running applications as Administrator will prevent many applications from working at all.
- Don't forget the password if you change it.
Domains
There is absolutely no reason why the DuVoice system needs to be part of a domain. In fact almost every system which has been added to a domain has problems. Most of these problems are because the administrators may force policy changes to the local machine which can effect it's operation.
Firewall
We recommend enabling the firewall and edit the settings to allow access to specific systems only. See our expanded configuration guide on the firewall here
DuVoice when installed will unblock all the ports it requires. However applications like PMS, Call Accounting and others will not. You will need to unblock these ports manually.
Another common problem is corporate firewalls between the DuVoice system and things like the PBX. It is common for these to block SIP connections after traffic has stopped. For example the firewall when it sees traffic between the PBX and DuVoice will open the ports necessary and then when traffic has stopped it will close them. This results in calls going unanswered.
- Rather than worry about opening ports, unblock everything by IP. For example make a rule that anything between the PBX and the DuVoice system does not get blocked.
- Review the firewall logs to verify your not blocking ports that are required.
Microsoft Office
There is no need to install Microsoft Office on the DuVoice system and it is preferred not to do so.
Power Options
It is best to select High performance from the Control Panel power options, then edit this plan and make certain the following are set. Key thing is the system should never sleep and never hibernate for any reason.
Note: Not setting the system to not sleep can cause SIP and PMS interfaces which use the network to fail. This is due to the system putting the network adapter to sleep.
- Turn off hard disk after set to Never
- Sleep
- Sleep after, set to Never
- Allow hybrid sleep, set to Never
- Hibernate after, set to Never
- PCI Express
- Link State Power Management, set to Off
If the system is connected to a UPS make certain the system sleeps on power loss rather than hibernates.
Remote Access
DuVoice uses teamviewer for all remote access. This application is fully secure and provides the best remote security we've found.
RDP can be used internally to administer the system without any effects on the DuVoice system.
Updates
Automatic updates should be disabled. While a updates should be applied regularly and often they should not be automatically applied.
The DuVoice is a voicemail system requiring 24 hour up time, if automatic updates are enabled the system will apply the updates and may reboot right when all your wakeup calls are set to occur.
SIP systems are often disrupted by automatic updates because they interfere with the SIP stack and they system will look normal but no calls are answered.
- Perform manual updates following the second Tuesday of every month. This is the day Microsoft releases new updates.
- Reboot the system following any updates regardless if the updates require it or not.
- You may configure the update process to download the updates but not install them in order to save time.
Web Servers
DuVoice requires it's own web server and it is installed by default. It is possible to run multiple servers on the DuVoice however we suggest you configure each to use it's own network card.
- DuVoice cannot use IIS for InnDesk.
- InnDesk can be configured for a different port, however this must be configured manually.
- InnDesk by default only listens on port 80 and does not support HTTPS.

It is strongly suggested the network connection be set to private. This must be done from Windows Settings.
- Click Windows icon in lower left of screen.
- Click the gear icon.
- Click Network & Internet.
- Click Change connection properties.
- Choose Private.
Adapter Names
When the system has multiple adapters and each is used for a different connection or use, it's recommended to rename each adapter to what it's used for. This will make diagnosis of any SIP or networking issues easier to identify.
