To Gateway
Preface
- This page is for setting up the DuVoice server to send MWI updates to a SIP Gateway.
- Compared to direct-to-phone method, the direct-to-gateway method only has one solution.
- Which is sending the SIP notify to an IP address of the gateway.
- (And postpending the port number, if needed).
Requirements
- Networking:
- The DuVoice server's Dialogic HMP Telephony drivers only allow for one NIC to be assigned for SIP.
- Thus all SIP traffic will need to be routed through this NIC.
- Only 1 IP address is supported on this NIC.
- This NIC will need to have network access to both the PBX and the gateways.
- If PBX is a hosted solution, then this NIC will need internet access as well.
- Must have 2-way SIP traffic between:
- Each gateway itself.
- And the Dialogic-HMP-bound network interface of the DuVoice server.
- Meaning these devices must be on the same network.
- Or have the routing rules in place to support this.
- The physical gateway must remain on the same IP address.
- This can be done one of two ways:
- Manual static IP configuration.
- DHCP reservation.
- If at some point the physical gateway is replaced:
- Keeping the new one on the same IP address will minimize further troubles.
- If the IP changes:
- MWI will cease function until:
- And the associated mailboxes to that gateway will need to be updated.
SIP Gateway Configuration
- Requires the gateways to be assigned a static IP address.
- This information will require exporting into a list.
- We'll refer to this as
<gateway-ip>in the DuVoice configuration below.
- If the gateway maps a single IP address to a single phone, this is the ideal scenario.
- If it uses a port number instead. The DuVoice configuration will require this information.
- We'll refer to this as
<gateway-port>in the DuVoice configuration below.
- All of this information will need to be organized so that it maps to the correct extension number so the correct MWI updates can be sent to the correct extension.
Model Specific Configuration
When using a SIP gateway to connect analog phones, many support the ability to address an extension directly allowing the DuVoice system to send a SIP notify to the gateway.
Some Gateways only use use the gateway IP address for each port while others like the Grandstream GXW4224V2 use the IP address and a port number for each jack. In the case of the Grandstream
Issues
- The Gateway must support the type of MWI light the analog phone uses and must be set accordingly. Grandstream GXW4224V2 and Adtran 924e supports both FSK and NEON.

Mailbox Configuration
For this to work, we need to enter the IP address of the phone (or gateway IP and port) within the mailbox's configuration.
CSV Import
For more information on the CSV import process here.
- Configure the MWI address into the 'MWI 0' column to the CSV file:
- For a SIP gateway configure it like this example:
- 123@192.168.0.123:5003
- Replace the
123with the<phone-ext>. - Replace the
192.168.0.123with the<gateway-ip>. - Replace the
5003with the<gateway-port>. - Keep in mind that this information needs to be in the same row as the appropriate mailbox.
Manual Configuration
- Log in to the desktop of the DuVoice server.
- Open the 'DV2000 Manager' application.
- Click on the 'Mailbox' drop down option.
- Click on the 'Management' option.
- The 'mailboxes' window will open.
- Navigate to the mailbox to be modified.
- Double click on it to edit.
- The individual mailbox will open.
- Click on the 'MWI' option on the left.
- Configure the MWI address into the 'Address' column for 'Position' 0 like the following:
- For a SIP gateway configure it like this example:
- 123@192.168.0.123:5003
- Replace the
123with the<phone-ext>. - Replace the
192.168.0.123with the<gateway-ip>. - Replace the
5003with the<gateway-port>.
- Click 'ok' to save changes, and close the window.
